Smoking Barrels

Smoking barrels is a simple gun dueling game with quite a few extras. You duel through a roster “about” 20 opponents, each with progressively higher rankings. Between duels, you can buy items at the shop, and there are a lot to choose from. There are five dueling guns, each with increased damage and speed. Each gun requires you to have beaten someone of a certain rank to be able to purchase it. There are five types of bullets, but there really isn’t any reason to not buy the explosive steel bullets – there only a few dollars more than the crappy ones and do considerable more damage. Two items will provide an advantage for a limited amount of duels, the leather vest and the lucky clover.

The game has four mini-games, which you earn money for playing. Each mini-game requires an item be purchased to play, but after it is the game can be played an unlimited amount of times. Since the only way to loose the game is to not have enough money to heal and enter another duel, the silver knife and the lens rifle both prevent you from loosing, and provide an endless, if not tedious, source of free money.

The silver knife unlocks the knife throwing game, a simple game where you click to release the knife at the right time to hit a target. The lens rifle unlocks a target shooting game. The targets are decently hard to spot, and the scope takes some getting used to. An item called The Devil’s Dice unlocks a simple dice betting game, which is entirely luck based. A saddle, which comes with a horse, unlocks the desert races: a game where you have the option to bet on a hurdle race. That game is also simple, with the biggest trick being not to run anywhere near full-speed.

The sound is decent, with the music fitting the theme of the game. The graphics are good, all of the enemies look different, and equipped items show up on the character. The game allows you to keep playing after all the enemies are killed, but there isn’t much reason to. Learn how to be a cowboy in this western shooter.

Great game and well designed level. There is so much to explore. I just ran it 59.27 with a few little hiccups.
